Wood Chips

Here is the BIG pile of wood chips that we had dumped in our driveway. That was one of the things we worked on last weekend (and again on the holiday yesterday and again this coming weekend...). Paul and my mom are working hard here. Can you see that the pile of chips is practically to mom's head?! Dad was in the back, trimming the giant dead tree branches that threatened to fall on us and were scraping the roof. The wonderful smell of redwood makes our backyard much more pleasant. Not to mention that it will enrich the soil (or lack thereof) and keep Paw from having to mow. :)

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We enjoyed staying home (pregnant ladies don't really want to sit on the ground for several hours, far away from the nearest bathroom, just to watch fireworks). We watched the fireworks at the Capital on PBS though.

Last Days as Just a Couple

Here are Paul and I in front of our fireplace. We are prepared that the baby could come any day (or week) now. We enjoyed the weekend by working on the house (thanks Mom and Dad) and were glad to get to all the little things that we'd been wanting to do since we moved in. Also, we went out to see a movie and laughed that it could be our last night going out in a while, or we could see a few more movies before he's born. We just don't know.

Still Here

Baby and Mommy are still one. No hint of a due date: none of those early Braxton-Hicks contractions. I keep thinking maybe the cats will act differently once the time gets close, you know, like horses and cows act weird when they sense an earthquake coming.

We installed the car seat this weekend and made a practice run to the hospital. Paul even brilliantly found a shortcut. I think that covers all necessary pre-baby preparation. This week I plan to make a few casseroles to freeze.

Garden Update

Our little garden is growing fast. I need to water it more often, but the tomatoes love this hot weather. There are plenty of green tomatoes so far and I can't wait until they ripen. Mmmmm!

Father's Day

We had a great Father's Day weekend. Paul and I spent Saturday at the Scottish Games in Campbell with my aunt Sharon. It was fun to see the competitive dancing and Scottish country dancing. We heard lots of wonderful bagpipes and drums, and we saw the men and women putting stones and throwing hammers.

On Sunday we went to Kirby Cove in San Francisco. What beautiful weather we had! Here's Dad with the wolf that Paul *made* for him. Paul rediscovered his dremel tool (a drill with special bits you can use for carving wood), I'm thrilled!!

Here's all of us (except Paul, taking the picture) at the beach with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background: Mom and me, Mike, Dad and Sharon.

Counting Down

Here I am at 35 weeks in front of our kitchen door leading to the backyard. Mom bought me this new outfit and it is exciting for me to wear something else besides the same maternity pants and same three shirts every day. There are 5 weeks until we're due, but we know the baby could come anytime between 3 and 7 weeks from now.

Baby is still rolling and I can feel a solid lump move around that I assume is either his head or rump. Paul and I often watch my belly distend and distort as he somersaults.

Nursery - Step 1

I know, I've been slacking posting here. Paul and I had a great weekend! We bought the car seat/stroller combo as well as the changing table/dresser. Here are some pictures of what I put together so far in the baby's room. We received lots of really cute safari/jungle themed stuffed animals that decorate the nursery perfectly. I need to find a way to hang the quilt and then we'll put that up with the framed pictures we have. All the newborn clothes and blankets are washed and put away. I feel very prepared and extremely happy. We have 5 weeks until we're due, so still lots of time. The only things left to do are to fill out the pre-admission papers at the hospital, pack the hospital bag, and correctly install the car seat base into the car. ... Oh, and practice breathing. :)
